About Us

Home 9 About Us

Harden Players is a friendly society that has been staging quality amateur theatre in the village of Harden, West Yorkshire, for over forty years. Our spring pantomimes, which run for eight performances (six evenings and two Saturday matinees), are always highly popular and usually sell out quickly. We also stage an autumn play in October – everything from The Invisible Man to Hi-de-Hi!

Rehearsals for productions usually begin around four months in advance of the performance dates. Following a readthrough of the script, society members are invited to audition for roles and rehearsals then take place twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Harden Congregational Church (more often than not followed by a trip to the Fleece!). Those interested in set-building, this usually takes place on a Monday evening (although smaller props can also be made at home).

If you’d like to join us, we’re sure there’ll be a role for you. Click here to find out more about getting involved.

Archive material – an appeal from Harden Players

We are hoping to archive a history of Players’ performances from its long and distinguished past – partly in memory of Brian Foster, who was an active member for many years, but also as a way of celebrating the continuity and changes embodied in such a thriving community organisation. If you have any photographs, or old copies of programmes, posters, scripts or recordings (Betamax and VHS welcomed!), we would love to get them digitised. Please contact the Players on hardenplayers@hotmail.co.uk
